Q: Typically, what is the most important thing you look for when recruiting a player?
A: Anson Dorrance, Head Women's Soccer Coach, University of North Carolina: The indefatigable human spirit.

A: T.O. Totty, Head Women's Soccer Coach, Clayton College: When recruiting a player, I typically look for the following:

  • Attitude towards school (good student)
  • Coachable player (self-motivated)
  • Away from the team, how do you keep yourself motivated during the season?

A: Aston Rhoden, Head Women's Soccer Coach, University of Alabama: I think it's very important that a coach be close to his players. Whenever a player feels that she can talk to her coach about most things, it helps with team building and makes it much easier for the coach to motivate and teach the player.

Q: At the end of the year, what do you say to a player who has had a disappointing season?
A: Anson Dorrance: I ask them, "Can you to better?" and after they answer "Yes," we reconstruct their confidence, refocus their work ethic and we begin working for a new level together.

A: Paul Hogan: I will sit the player down and discuss the reasons for the isappointing season. I want my player to have confidence, so I would usually try to pump up his ego, so he will grow as a player.
